My name is Roger…
…. and I’m a Hydroplane Racing Geek. My drive to and from work gives me plenty of time to think about life and things in general. One night I started to think about hydroplane racing and how much I enjoy the sport. Man, am I a geek! Let’s see how I came up with this conclusion.

- The wallpaper on my cell phone is a photo of the U3 that I took in Detroit.
- The wallpaper on my computer at work is the Go 3 Racing.
- One of the ringtones on my phone is a turbine engine startup that is assigned to my friends that I’ve made through hydroplane racing.
- I maintain a hydroplane racing blog and recently retired another that I created in back 2005.
- I have a facebook page with several hydro photos. I also maintain a hydroplane racing page on facebook. A network has been created through facebook that includes hydroplane racing fans, drivers (past and present), crew members, tv/radio personalities, photographers and I’m a fan of several related pages.
- I have hundreds of photos that I’ve taken over the years.
- I twitter the U3 and ABRA sites.
- Planning on 2 inboard races this year, walled lake and stony creek. Attended the Stony Creek race the past 2 years.
- Planning a hydro party of racing slides and video called ‘Hydro-phenia – A Boat Racing Opera’.
- I’ve been to every Unlimited race in Detroit, except one, since 1982. Have traveled to other sites, budget pending, to watch the big boats race.
It’s safe to say that I qualify as a geek, junkie, fanatic. Whatever you want to call it, that’s me. I’m sure there are many more like me out there.
Hey buddy, get a life! No thank-you, I’ll keep the one that I have. I have kids that I need to pass the torch to for the future of hydroplane racing.

Hey Roger, Guilty as charged here. My story is about the same as yours. Seattle races since 1958 plus Tri-Cities, San Diego and whatever limited races are going also. I could go on & on & on.....
It sounds like you have the same extreme case of OCHD (Obsessive Compulsive Hydroplane Disorder).
I know I wouldn't changed it for the world either.
Keep On Racin'
